QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • How does Capillus mobile laser therapy work?

A healthy hair follicle is vital to the long-term growth and health of the hair. Many hair loss conditions, like pattern baldness, are associated with degradation within the hair follicle (e.g. miniaturization, dormancy, etc.) Capillus laser caps are designed to improve cellular respiration within the hair follicle, which has been shown to increase oxygen availability, nutrient delivery, and promotes a healthy hair growth cycle

  • does this model work faster than the models with fewer diodes?

A laser cap with more diodes will create more laser light for your scalp to absorb. A laser cap with more diodes will promote stronger hair growth.

  • Can you use a laser cap if you are taking 1mg/ finasteride a day?

Your hair should be free of all hair products before you starting your laser hair treatment.

  • Is laser therapy for hair growth good for people that are prone to skin cancers on their head?

There are no indications that using low-level laser therapy (LLLT), also referred to as photobiomodulation (or PBMT), will exacerbate skin cancer.  LLLT is exclusively in the visible red light spectrum – no UV or other harmful light. This article by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) summarizes a 2012 study which documented the "absence of strong positive or negative effects of LLLT on tumor growth" with the type of red light that is used in LLLT.  The study did, in fact, conclude that there was no proof or indication that LLLT (PBMT) has any negative effect on cancer cells.  If your skin is more photosensitive from skin cancer's effects or treatment of it, you may wish to consult your physician before using LLLT.

  • Why do they call this laser therapy when its clearly only led therapy? Is it just to justify the exorbitant price. Something like this shouldn't cost more than $200.00 and you would be making at least 4x your money.

The therapy used is LLLT (low level laser therapy), and these are FDA cleared devices for medical use. These caps use laser diodes, and not the inexpensive LED lights.

There is a significant difference between Lasers and LEDs for hair growth. Although they may look the same, only Lasers have been clinically proven to promote hair growth. The reason is that Lasers provide stronger, focused more intense light energy than LEDs. In addition, Lasers are specific in the color of light they deliver. All of the Laser energy is concentrated into a single wavelength (color) of light. LED light energy is dispersed into various wavelengths (colors).

So why would a company use LEDs in their hair growth devices? The simple answer is that LEDs are significantly less expensive than laser diodes.  Laser light is collimated, meaning it travels in a straight line. This focused, collimated light penetrates the scalp to reach the follicle root, which is vital to stimulate hair growth.

Lasers emit a single wavelength that makes laser light ideal for medical treatments. Certain tissues (including hair follicles) only respond to particular wavelengths of light. Laser light’s coherence keeps the energy focused and the beam narrow. This is so that it can effectively penetrate deeper into the scalp and reach your hair follicles. LEDs on the other hand, emit light in a range of wavelengths, rather than one specific wavelength. The LED beams are incoherent and wider than a laser’s, so it can’t penetrate as far into the scalp.

Essentially, lasers are much more focused and powerful.  A simple example would be a laser keeps it's 'straight line' shape over distance, where a flashlight "cones' away from the end of the flashlight.

Laser Therapy has been proven in clinical studies to:
    • Statistically significant increase in terminal hair density (thickness)
    • Higher percentage of treated subjects reported overall improvement of hair loss condition and thickness and fullness of hair
    • Increase in hair counts was comparable to short-term clinical trials of 5% minoxidil (Rogaine) and 1mg/day finasteride (Propecia)
    • No serious side effects.
312 Laser diodes offer the most comprehensive coverage of laser hair therapy on the market.
